Trained as a mechanical engineer, Don worked in research and development through the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Today, he and his wife reside in Upton, Massachusetts.
In the mid-nineties, Don started taking night courses in fine woodworking at the Worcester Center for Crafts in Worcester, MA, and it was there that he got hooked on woodturning. Woodturning by hand, in which the artisan manually controls the cutting tool over the lathe-driven spinning wood, was an industrial skill until the early part of the twentieth century. Since then, it has been reborn as an art-form. The ability to transform a rough log into an object of function and beauty held a special appeal for Don. In 2002 Don left high-tech to become a full-time artist woodturner.
